Affordability
Housing must be financially accessible to veterans, often through subsidies, vouchers (like HUD-VASH), or income-based rent models.
This includes ensuring long-term financial sustainability and minimizing risk of displacement.
Safety and Accessibility
Homes must meet physical safety standards (structural integrity, fire safety, secure locks, etc.).
They should be accessible for veterans with disabilities, following ADA compliance where applicable.
Supportive Services
Housing should integrate or connect residents with VA Hospital supportive services such as mental health care, substance use treatment, employment assistance, and case management.
This holistic approach addresses the root causes of homelessness and instability.
Community and Stability
Housing environments should promote a sense of belonging, stability, and dignity.
Building community connections and reducing isolation are key to long-term success and well-being.
